Hey everyone, very new this forum! Been lurking around for awhile and finally registered in. Now here's my question. I incubated six eggs and only one egg made it through. Not sure what kind of chick it is but if anyone can throw me a guess that would be nice! Anyways the chick was born Aug.28th in the morning and since its been hatched I feel the chick is very much alone. So I went ahead and ordered three more chicks (light brahmas) which will be arriving sept 5. Now it will be exactly a week old, is it to late to add the three other chicks with my lonely chick? Alright thanks everyone!

No, not too old at all! 1 week isn't too huge of a difference. When you first put them together, just watch and make sure the LB chicks figure out where the food and water is. The older chick may pick on them a bit for the first day or two, but they outnumber her and she'll cut it out quickly. :) Pretty soon they'll all be BFFs (Best Feathered Friends), and your older chick will enjoy the company!

Thanks for the response everyone! Does anyone happen to know what chick I have now? I'm guessing a black rock but I'm sure because I'm new to this.

I don't know, honestly. It could be! Do you know what the breeds were for the eggs you incubated...then we'd have some possibilities to choose from.

Here is the list the seller gave me of the eggs.

Roosters~ Dominique
Silver Laced Wyandotte
Partridge Plymouth Rock
Hens~Rhode Island Red
Golden Comets

Well, the white spot on the head indicates a barred parent. However in this case it does not indicate gender.

If you are at all interested in sex links, check out this thread.

https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/261208/sex-linked-information

Crossing certain breeds of cockerels with a barred variety hen (Dominique, cuckoo Marans, barred Rock, barred Holland) will result in sex linked offspring. In your case the barred bird was the father, so the sex linkage will not be valid. The chick will have some barring though.

Oh sorry, I was just looking at your list, not at the photo! If I understood correctly, you wrote that the hens you ordered were RIRs and Comets, and the other breeds you ordered were roos. If that's the case, you likely have a roo, just because your chick doesn't look like an RIR or Comet. Does that make any sense?

Interesting info, keesmom! Thanks for sharing.
