Adding a hen to the bab chicks?

Why do some people add a hen to their chicks and when do you do this? What are the benefits and what age with the chicks is it ok to start? I have on hen, Aretha, who has never fit in with the flock. She so sweet and she has been trying to hatc her own eggs for a few months but I just put them i. The incubator. In think she would love being a mama hen. Just not sure what to do...?

Not sure why you wouldn't let her set the eggs if she is broody???????????
Not sure what to say.chances are better if she hatches them.......
A bit iffy if you give her hatched chicks.sometimes they accept them, sometimes they don't.
I think the big question is how much longer will she be broody.
I have read that the chicks bond within four days.not sure of this.
Maybe you could ask in raising chicks.............
