Anywhere with chickens
My Coop
My Coop
So I am going to start on my large coop this summer and I am going to place my hatchery order for next year very soon. I will be getting some hens for my olive egger project and due to this I will be re homing my red sex links and I want more of those larger eggs. Plus I am starting to expand my ownership of avian creatures for my degree. I can’t have Guineas pheasants of peafowl. What would you recommend?

If you only have experience with chickens, I'd try either ducks or coturnix. Ducks have a less violent flock though, but they're ussually larger and will definitely male a giant mess, as well as need a specilized diet compared to chickens.

if you do get ducks and put them in with your chickens, watch the male (if you get on) he may try to breed your hens or hurt roos. My make duck is bad about doing that. Ducks are also messy birds

Geese, they’re also very messy and loud. But can be sweet unless it’s breeding season.

You could also try turkeys and quail.

Are you in college now, working on what degree?

If you want fowl other than chickens, best to have separate housing for each species.
High school I am taking college credit classes though. I wouldn’t get a new bird and leave my parents to deal with it. I am hoping to be an avian/poultry vet. We will have a separate are one we build the new coop. I have seen people having success with Turkeys ducks and chickens together.
