This is our first year with chickens. We currently have 16 EEs 8 weeks old sadly we'll have to send 5 or 6 off we are only keep 1 or 2 roos once I figure out who to keep. So we'll have 10 or 11.
I told DH I wanted to add in some brown and white egg layers. At first we had planned on getting them next spring. Our last chicks were kept in the spare bedroom for a few weeks then out to the coop.
Anyways DH didn't like them in the house so I told him we could get them now and brood them in the garage/coop area and they should be feathered out by the time it gets cold here in lower Michigan.
We are getting 15 Cuckoo Marans strait run, 5 Splash Cochin strait run, 5 Buff Orpington Pullets and 6 Polish Pullets. All but the polish should be here Aug 14th, I hate waiting.. lol The Polish are coming from MPC so they'll come in later.
I hope we can get them all to get along with each other before winter comes.
Wish us luck
Rhonda

I put my 4 week old chicks in with the 7 teen age chickens (4 and 6 months old) and two adults. It was almost like introducing dogs. There was a stare down, some posturing, submission etc. the youngest of the older ones are the only ones that really peck at the little ones. Even then its a gentle peck saying " hey, I eat first I've been here longer than you.

I have chicks from 4 weeks to 12 weeks in the same coop/run. I will be adding more when they are arround 4 weeks old, by then the older ones will be 14-15 weeks old. I ALWAYS introduce them at night and the coop/run share a hardware cloth fence with the brooder. There are around 65 of them in there now. And there will be around 100 when I am done. When they are 18-20 weeks, they will move out and into a coop with nest boxes and then allowed to free range.

I have one chick (4 weeks old) in the garage. I have 4 (12 weeks ) in the coop. I am too afraid they will kill the baby. I will wait for the baby to be almost 12 weeks to be with them. Although i might get a friend for her because being alone for that long is not good for her. She is fairly happy, just hanging out.

Thanks for the replies.
My large coop shares a wall with the garage that is 1/2 chicken wire and the bottom is OSB. The chicks brooder hutch is going to be either right next to their wall or actually in the coop.
I am hoping they will grow accustom to each other quickly that way.
