Does anyone have a good (not real expensive) way of adding omega 3s to my girls diet? Flax seed can be really expensive. And also how much should be added to be a sufficient amount.
Thanks!

I use Nutrena Naturewise Hearty Hen layers feed. It's 18% Protein, Soy-free with Omega 3 from Flax seed. $14.59 for 40# at my local independent feed, hardware and lumber yard.
Another option is Purina Layena Plus Omega-3 layers feed. 16% Protein. $15.99 for 40# at my local TSC. GC

Free ranging birds will have a better Omega3 to 6 ratio in their eggs, at least while they can eat plants, bugs, and worms outside. Probably not as good during snow season, but otherwise ranging on varied plants and stuff is very helpful.
I'm happier feed ing a higher protein, lower calcium all-flock diet to my birds, and supplementing the oyster shell for the laying hens.
