Adding silkies to existing flock

I currently have a flock that consists of 22, 7 week old chickens. We have 1 AmberLink cockerel, 3 Rhode island white hens, approximately 10 Plymouth barred rock hens, and approximately 8 barred cockerel. (Yes I know my cockerels will need reduced once hormones kick in) 3 ducks, 1 khaki campbell drake, and 2 pekins voiced sexed as a drake and duck.

We also have a flock of 20ish 2-3 week old Ameraucana, Easter Eggers, sapphire splash, sapphire gem and a few other breeds (whatever looked cute ). This flock has 6 2 week old ducks 4 Rouen ducks, 1 Campbell, and 1 unknown (yellowish brown with a few dark brown spots)

All ducks have been raised with their prospective flock.


We are preparing to convert one of our Barns or building into a chicken/duck coop.

My biggest concern is after moving my older flock into our converted coop is there anything special I need to consider when building or introducing the younger flock.

I'm a bit confused by your title. Are any of your birds Silkies or will there be Silkies in the future? Some Silkies have been able to be housed with standard breeds, but it is not a for sure as their crests and mild manners make them a target for bullying.
Generally speaking younger birds are easier to put together than older birds. Make sure you have plenty of resources,; food, water, roosts, hiding places that are not traps. Be prepared to fence off an area for see no touch if needed to allow the birds to get used to each other before full integration.

Also you may want to make a separate pen for the ducks as drakes that are raised with chickens may try mating them. This is physically dangerous for the chickens.
