Adding to layer feed

Hi,
I like to buy organic layer feed for my chickens but the price is over $30 for one 50lb bag. So I am wondering if I could add some other things to the layer feed to make it stretch and last longer and also be less expensive. Can anyone give me some ideas? Or is there anyone who already does this?

If you are organic than all your add ons need to be organic as well. nothing cheap there. Free ranging is the cheapest way to extend feed. Mine will go through 1/3 the feed when they can range for 8+ hours.

Absolutely true. Everything you feed them must be organic and it is a pricey way to go. I admire those who do, but the costs have to be weighed.
