I loaned one of my incubators to a friend, and she is hatching a barn mix.

When I went over to help with putting them into lockdown, I noticed she had the temp at 97. Apparently, this is where she has been keeping it.

After candling, we noticed that there is still movement in the eggs, but that they don't look developed enough for lockdown.

Any suggestions? Will the low temp effect when their hatch day is?

she might have chicks with curled toes too, temps, 2 degrees up or down might not make a diff.in the shoirt term, but over a long period, yes, very least it will delay the hatch- candle the pointy tip of the egg- by day 16 they should be dark- if you see clear then it is not developing correctly and might not hatch.

Delayed hatch for sure.

yes!!!!! if they are behind they need more time to absorb the fluids in the egg- so did you candle? you should not lock down if there is any clear in the pointy end. In your case- you can stop turning but don't add water, until the first pip.

(PICS)

Yes, we can still see clear liquid but it is both at pointy end and fat end.

This is the point end lite up....

I have 6 eggs on day 18- one still has clear and movement- it is early yet- 4 more days to go- I will not give up. I will not humidify until the outer pip.

looks like your eggs need to dry up- I would give them 23-24 days for sure. did you turn up the heat?

nice. I have home made incubator and keep mine at 102 as required for still air- I keep an eye and don't let it get below 100, I had a couple of nights it went down to 98/99 but I didn't worry because it was only a couple of hrs. I have had a couple of heat spikes as well 104 but not very often or long.

We candled, still a lot of fluid. Chicks are still moving. One is very very active at the pointy end. Just a moving all over the place in there.
