Hi Everyone,

Quick questions. I have my two younger chicks who are doing well, going outside with me and even following me anround our property for times during the day. They are 14 weeks old now. They also spend time “socializing” with our older two birds (6 months old) through a divided day pen that doesn’t have shelter for cold temps or safety from predators at night. The few times I have tried having them all together our older male can be quite mean.

I need to have them in the bigger pen with the building for the cold, and safety at night, with the other birds soon, because they are getting too big for the cage I have been raising them in on our screened porch. Between the older male being too rough, a recent cold snap here (it is 60° during the day), and their age, I am caught.

1) They all get extra heat right now, the younger ones more than the older ones. The older ones seem to be regulating it all very well. When do I stop worrying about that with the younger ones? The building the older ones have has a bit of heat, but still is getting to 50° at night. We usually are above freezing for most of the winter, but can have a few days below freezing (in central Texas).

2) at what point is it safe to let everyone be together (behavior wise)?

Thanks, as always, could not deal it without the support of this group.

Kat
