I have one broody bantem hen that hatched out just one little chick. I have medicated chick starter crumbles left from my boughten chicks. My question is .. is it okay to feed the hen with little chick the starter feed also? Will the med. in it affect her?

It's OK.

Don't feed layer food to the chick. It's high in calcuim and can damage the kidneys.

I am having the same type of issue. I am feeding medicated starter to my 10 week old chicks and my 1yr old hens run out to the chick area and gobble their crumbles down so fast you would think they had never seen food before. my hens have layer pellets and the chicks have crumbles I wonder if that is the issue and they would prefer crumbles or is it just because it isn't theirs?

Do not give medicated chick starter only to leing hens because you do not like to eat the medicine with the eggs

This would only go to my broody hens that have hatched chicks, I know the chicks need the med. but didnt know if it would hurt the adult hen. I will stop feeding or seperate the hen when she starts laying again.
Thanks for the advice!

My broody hens eat the chick starter all the time. How can you keep them from not eating it. They aren't laying so I don't think it will hurt. My one hen hatched a chick 3 weeks ago and she still eats some of her food. I hve the layer pellets there but she always shares the little ones.

Its not a problem for the mom to eat the med. chick feed. I have a hen that hatches out chicks for me every year and she goes from the chick starter to the grower along with the chicks with no problems.
