We've got the last of our spring chicks in the brooder, just a day or two away from going into the "nursery" outside. They're ranging a lot now... escaping the coop to sit on the back of the couch, on an office chair, wandering around the living room.

How do you keep your chickens in the brooder? I've seen designs with nets or wire over the top, but I'm apprehensive to do that because this batch LOVES to fly and roost high. Do you just live with it and let them roam, or do you keep them contained?

I had that same issue! It wasn't pretty, they flapped around on my bed, pooped on my pillows.. wasn't good. If they're stir crazy like that, you can hang some broccoli and other greens in their cage, and you could also put something shiny in, chickens like to peck at shiny stuff!
