Hello!
I am considering buying some geese as a present to my friends. They used to have 4 Embden geese (I think they were Embden), but unfortunately 3 were killed. The one left, a male, is a loner and sometimes hangs out with the ducks. We've been planning to get him a "bride" for a few months now, but I'm wondering how he would react to meeting other geese after he's been alone for such a long time.
I'm considering buying around 4 Embden female goslings. Any advice for the number of males and females I should purchase and also how the geese would behave? Would they accept him into their flock?
Thanks a lot!

Geese are all individual however sometimes the boys make the better parents. But goslings make all my boys protective as just hatched babys they will take them all on a little older babes there leery till they bond but still protective. I have boys that jump right in and others that are only interested in there girl and want nothing to do with it. So always tricky have a plan B with babies.

If you find a few girls who are grown out. Give them side by side pens and take your time. But bet he catches on. Theres nothing like a goose to a goose....

I've had ganders take to young ones, and I've had them try to kill them. I would raise them with a fence between and see how he does.

I just ordered more geese for next year through MPC. I see Meyers is also doing early ordering. Best not to wait too long as sometimes they sell out.

I would start introducing them to him at around a week and a half to two weeks old for brief outings, but make it a regular thing. Once they’re 4 to 6 weeks old they may be able to stay with him full time if the weather is good, just make sure they have a secure predator proof pen for bedtime. Geese usually are very willing to adopt goslings and early introductions are usually better so that the goslings don’t form their own clique and treat him like an outsider if you introduce them as adults.

I would maybe get one or maybe two females, another male is risky. It all depends on the personality.

Hope it goes well.
