Hello all,

My first post from the Highlands of Scotland. Wondering if anyone can offer some advice please?

I bought two lovely girls from a reputable seller about two weeks ago who are both vaccinated, after a couple of days of having them i noticed one of them (Amber) seemed lethargic, droopy tail, generally looking sad and staying in the coup all day, thought perhaps she was just a little stressed from the move and settling into her new home but a day later and she appeared to have a limp and wasn't eating, drinking. So i immediately thought "Mareks" (have seen this before). So we took her indoors to quarantine her from our other ladies. Fed her nutri drops and pellets and fresh water with apple cider vinegar, gave her some TLC and she seemed to perk up. Now she is a happy, perky lady who wants to explore and no longer seems poorly but still has a limp in one leg, when i press the bottom of her feet she can grip and has good movement in the leg? No longer has a droopy tail or looking unwell. Normal looking eyes, feathers, wings etc. I should mention she has been on flubenvet for the last 4 days and this seemed to perk her up even more?

So after that long story i'm wondering if she has Mareks or could she have simply injured her leg and was feeling a but miserable about it and the move? I would really like to re-introduce her to the flock but i'm unsure if it is safe just yet?

Thanks all!!

Welcome to BYC. Injury could be a more likely problem since she could have been injured in the move, or from jumping down from a roost. Vitamins are always a good idea when dealing with a leg problem, just in case of riboflavin (vitamin B2) or another vitamin or mineral deficiency. If her leg should become paralyzed, then I would be more concerned about the possibility of mareks. Resting the leg hopefully will help her. Make sure that she can get to food and water while she recuperates. Let us know what happens.

Thank you Eggcessive for your advice. She has been indoors with us for a week and a half now and seems in good health apart from her limp when she walks, but this has improved and she now puts more pressure on the leg. I plan to gently re-integrate her into my flock of other ladies when she finishes her course of wormer (tomorrow) i just want to be sure it's not Mareks though but the last chook i saw with it deteriorated rapidly over a week so i think i'm safe to go ahead with my plan to re-introduce?
Really love this forum as it is a gem of knowledge :thumbsup
