Hi! One of my 4 day old chicks that was shipped apparently got pasty butt today when i was at work. I gently cleaned off the crusty stuff , and have her on a heating pad. i got an eyedropper, and gave her a little sugar water. She is very droopy and weak. any other sugggestions to help her recover?

Feed her up and keep her nice and warm. To keep the pasty butts away, mix in a little cornmeal with your food! I have done this twice and out of 18 chicks total have only had one pasty butt!

Thanks for the advice! Unfortunately, the little thing just couldn't make it. I think she was just too stressed from the shipping.

Sorry she didn't make it. As soon as my chicks arrive I put a 4X4 inch chunk of sod in their brooder. Make sure the grass has never been fertilized or bug killer has never been used on it. The chicks will scratch around in it and eat bits of dirt....just like the cornmeal and pasty butt is never a problem. Also starting day one I sprinkle a tiny bit of chick grit on their food. I think that also helps. The chick grit is red and I make sure each chick gets a piece or two to eat.
