hello all. happy summer days to you.
we will be getting 2 grow outs in sept/oct. (4 months old)
do you have any training advice to ensure that these older chickens will be child friendly?
they will be silkies. we are looking for a more family friendly, touchable chicken.
the leghorns are making my child sad because they don't want to be handled.
my child is making the leghorns sad, because he wants to handle them. Lol.
thanks so much!!!!

Silkies are a great choice, then! It will simply take spending time with them. Talking softly and giving treats by hand helps. As I'm sure you know, the chickens will feel more comfortable cradled in his lap (especially at first), rather than being held and walked around with. They don't like to be pet on the back as much as they like to have their breast/chest petted and rubbed. And they don't like to be chased, so enticing them by crouching and holding a treat (and again, talking sweetly) will be better than "attacking" or chasing from behind.
