Advice on temporary electric fencing as a run

As I posted in another area I’m dealing with fox issues. I’ve lost three hens in 3 months and don’t expect that to stop til I can kill it. Until then, I need an option to be able to let my chickens and ducks out when I’m not home. I’d prefer they are free ranging as much as possible for pests, quality of life and aesthetics (love looking out my windows or sitting outside and seeing them).

I’ve seen solar models that seem to be moveable and not sure how well they hold up? It would be nice to be able to rotate the area easily but also keep it safe.

A light electric fence is a great idea for that. My farm had a similar problem and the fox came around one time after that and got zapped and never came back. If you do not have an outside plug-in then set up the run close to your house with a long extension cord and you should be good

Even in an enclosed run you think that would still need an electric hot wire? I mean I’m sure it helps just wonder how necessary it is

No experience on the solar powered fencing, but we use electric netting for our sheep, and power it through a car battery. Works like a charm, and if a dog steers clear of them once they've been zapped once, I figure a fox will too.

If you use electric netting, make sure the bottom wire is pulled as tightly as you can, as this one doesn't have any electricity running through it. Buy some extra pins if your terrain is uneven to close gaps. Otherwise a fox might still get in underneath.
