Advice PLEASE!

I had a Pilgrim goose hatch last evening in my incubator. It was a long tough hatch for the little guy, but this morning he is alive and chirping. He eats, drinks and has pooped. The problem is, he hasn't stood up. He moves around the brooder and can hold his head up but tires easily. Don't they usually stand by now? What do I do?

Hi brandy. Congrats on your Pilgrim. I only breed mine naturally, but the babies don´t do much for the first 2 days. they just clamber about and around the goose. I´m sure he´ll be fine. Does he have a little friend due to join him soon?

Oh thank you for the encouragement! I have been fretting over him all night. I do have several more due to hatch in the incubator and a mama who just started sitting on a nest of several. Last year I bought my Pilgrims as babies and they were already feisty, so wasn't sure what to expect with hatching my own. It has been so cold here and when my girls started laying, the eggs would just freeze so I would gather them up right away and got this brilliant idea to incubate them. LOL I figured it couldn't hurt worse than letting them freeze. Now that it is a little warmer, I just let the mama keep her eggs. I have 14 in the incubator now that should hatch soon with any luck.

Haha, have a wonderful time with them all! Don´t forget, plenty of grass for them. Have you put some grass in for the hatchling? they love to nibble at it.

Oh my, I hadn't thought to give him some grass! I should have remembered from last spring with my others… I put the 3 new goslings in my garden and they had all the grass cleaned up in 2 days! Best little workers ever! LOL

Grass, and a bit of grit too (I use clean builder´s sand, no grit here), romaine lettuce is good, too. They´ll soon be eating like horses!
