Advice re straw in nesting boxes

I used straw to facilitate cleaning in my former coop and it worked well. We have 6 boxes that the chickens like to hang out in, but they kick out the straw from the recessed boxes, and the cleaning becomes harder. Any suggestions re nesting boxes and making cleaning easier? Thanks

Discourage them from just hanging out in the nesting boxes by making them dark if possible
