Advise Needed! Okay to get chicks this Fall???

You will be fine. I bought some in October last year. Of course I brooded them in the house and they did fine. I'm putting eggs under my silkie this week.

They should have feathered out before the real cold hits us. I'm in Iowa so I'm sure your weather is similar.

Just remembering a thread from a long time ago where someone in Alaska had chickens. They said they did not keep heat

in their coop. Chickens will aclimate if you let them. If you keep them too warm they have a tougher time say if you loose

power or your heater quits or what ever. They have feathers to keep them warm. Also another thing to think about is

chickens do better in certain climates. Like smaller chickens do better where it is hot and larger where it is cold. I have had

standard and bantam here with no problems. Also chickens with larger combs are more prone to frost bite. Just a few

things to consider. I don't think you will have any problems at all. Also it seems like I always get a broody in the fall and it

would seem like nature knows best. Let us know what you decide to get and don't forget the pics!!!

I DO have a coffee cup with the phrase, "Twisted & Sweet." It's a Christmas cup, too.
