Advise on a Silkie chicken coop

How much space do silkie's need? I live where it's very cold in the winter how and what to use for insulation? They can't be in a run in the winter? Also can I place it near/next to the house or will it stink too bad?

Silkies need about 2-3 sq ft of coop space per bird and about 6 sq ft of run space. Yes they can use their run in winter as long as they have coop access. I don't think you necessarily have to insulate but if you feel it's necessary, some people stack straw bales against the outside of the coop. Hope this helps. The smell depends alot on the care you use in maintenance, the number of birds and your tolerance level. Many people (including me ) like to have the coop very near the house. It makes care easier in bad weather and permits close monitoring if the flock.

They have a premade coop at tsc for 99.00 not sure of the size, does anyone know how many silkies that will hold?
