Hi all I had 5 eggs in the incubator 1 hatched yesterday 2 more hatched today ,and the last 2 eggs have pipped. But one of them has pipped right at the end of the airsack looks very low to me ,will he still be able to hatch on his own ? Its been about 12 ish hours since it pipped but no progress yet , I know they can take up to 24 hours but its the position of the pip that has me a little worried any advise ? Cheers

That's what I did he zipped but not right ,he got stuck trying to push the shell open so left him a hour at that pushing stage but he failed , so I just made his zip line a little bigger and after 10 mins he got out on his own very weak but doing ok for now , he had his head inbetween his legs so think I done the right thing , really don't think he would of made it out with out a little help , cheers for the reply :)

You will find two camps here on BYC. Those that will help a chick hatch and those that won't.

Those that will say they saved the life of the chick. Those that don't say the chicks that can't hatch by themselves are always weak and never make good birds.

However both camps agree that helping is needed when it's a rare or valuable egg.

Congrats on your hatch!

I agree a chick that can't hatch on its own will not be a great bird , but I'm not a breeder nor am I after a show bird , these will be my kids pet chickens , so a weaker chick is welcome here , only had 5 eggs so would like them all to make it :)
