Age for reliable gender certainty ( 4 wks?)

We got a mixed bunch of Marans sexed 'pullets' from Meyers. More than we are allowed to keep. I wanted to be prepared in case we lost some (and we did to shipping) and if some are roosters (which I am not keeping). So, we have to sell about half of what we have.

At what age should I encourage the kids to pick their chicks, so I can sell the rest?

They were hatched on 3/24. Most are pretty much heavily feathered now, but there are a couple that are behind their peers and a couple that are smaller than their peers, and these are not necessarily the same. The golden cuckoo give me the most pause as they seem like cuckoo cockerals (larger and lighter color).

Not going to be possible for me to grow them all out and then choose,.

it would be best if you find a person/friend who lives close to you who A) already has birds B)looking to own birds (for the extra hens) for the roosters maybe find a small hobby farm (still close by) to put the rooster(s). about the age well its a tricky one, possibly it would be best after another loss or soon after so they understand and if they still dont just say for example
"mommy where did chicken little go, i cant find him?"
"Sweetie chicken little went where grandma did"
"so grandmas taking care of him?
"yes"
or something like that i used the tooth fairy you just have to be creative good luck!

sorry i misread the question it depends in the breed for that but Marans sould be able to tell soon if not already

Generally, you can tell gender with single-combed breeds (like Marans) when they're 6-8 weeks old.
