Middle of Nowhere Arkansas & loving it!
I have hatched 10, and counting Chinese geese. I’ve noticed that during their daily walks from their outdoor nursery, the head gander Humphrey has taken up the role as their protector from the moms.
A couple of the goslings have reached 2 months now and show interest in joining the gaggle. Humphrey isn’t famous with it. He runs his women off and comes back to the goslings and I to help them find the best grasses.
I know they’ll need to join the gaggle at some point, but when is in question. The Emden seems to want nothing to do with it and the Toulouse just stick their nose up in the air and walk the other way after Humphrey gives his views to the male!
Geeeeez, the feathertics in the barnyard over these kids is crazy!
HELP-any advise!?:barnie

Yes Miss Lydia. When the parents are released in the morning across the barnyard from the goose shack, the first thing they do is go say hello. Then they leave and go to the pond and forage.
The goslings are taken out 2-3 times a day to forage. Most times the parents come for visits. That’s when I’ve noticed how some of them react. I think that’s why the head gander Humphrey has taken on the role he has.
We’ve discussed going strict Chinese to see if the dynamics might not be so harsh with babies coming on board maybe?
Right now Humphrey is keeping everyone at bay. I’m thinking now the 2 month olds no matter how large they are and honking are still not safe with a mixed crew.
