Age of hens? Are they too young for my rooster?

Remember that dominance mounting is not the same as mating mounting.
He may just be dominating them, show them who's boss because they are new to the flock.
He should know they are not ready for mating and leave them alone once he's established his dominance(they must submit).

aart, is there a way to tell the difference in these two types of mounting? After observing him this weekend, I couldn't really tell if he was mounting the girls in differently.
 
Once you've seen a 'cloacal kiss' you'll always recognize it.... but it's hard to catch them in the act.
This a pretty good video that shows her lifting her tail and him tipping his tail down making contact.
Then she gives the 'shake' that moves the deposited sperm 'upstream' where it can fertilize an ovum.

Oh my goodness that is phenomenal! Yep that is what my roo is accomplishing! It just seems so quick and easy for them to mate it's mind blowing! That thread is pretty funny to read also.
