I bought chicks(all pullets,I hope)on March 28th,Can someone tell me when they will start laying?I have a buff orpington, aracona, leghorn and a golden comet(what ever that is) and they are the cutest things I've ever seen.I hope it won't be too long before they're laying eggs... Thanks, Sunbury Chick::

My birds have never laid before 20 weeks, but they are just normal backyard birds. There are strains that lay earlier and later.

My first 3 I got on the same day as you, the next 3 came a few days later, then two more and so on. We should have eggs about the same time. I can't wait.

Got 25 day old RiR pullets from Ideal and started to lay at 16 weeks! Only 4 of them but caught me off guard since they were on an all purpose. Whe, I saw the first one, immediately switched to the layer pellet and gave them crished egg shell as a supplement, since it would take a while for the feed to provide the extra calcium needed.

How do they start to lay? An egg every once in a while or when they start is it a continuing process. Is there a way you can tell when they are about to start laying? John
