Aggressive chick

I have just introduced two week ol Plymouth rocks to my 4 weeks silklies and 4 week speckled Sussex. All have accepted them and are happy living together except for the boss chick who keeps pecking them and chasing them, I’ve had to separate her from the rest of the flock tonight as I’m worried she’ll kill the baby, she’s pretty fighty with the other Sussex. Am I right to separate her. She’s only speedster by a wire cage so can see them and sit with the others but can’t get to the babies. Not really sure what to do then! She’s very agressive!

Yes separate this bird...which may be a he not a she. (Either gender can be bossy).

2 week old chicks are very young compared to 4 week old chicks, so the babes need protecting.

In time, you standards will grow big and your Silkies may need protecting as they stay smaller (with those wonderful head crests that are so delightful to peck at).

Welcome to chicken keeping which means keeping an eye on the flock to make sure everyone is getting along okay. (If you've ever driven a car load of kids, it's the same principle.)

I read another member on here pecked her chicks with her finger on their back when they would be pecking at a chick.

I had 2 aggressive chicks, did it on both of them, took a few times but they stopped and got the picture pretty quick, they have occasional pecks and chest bumps but nothing vicious like before!
