We had two Leghorns (about a year old now), and lost one of them. About a month ago, we got a new Ameraucana (3 months old), so we now have 2 chickens total. The Leghorn (named Porkchop) and the baby have been getting along fine since. In fact, Porkchop takes care of the little one, allowing her to sleep under her at night. Lately, Porkchop has become very hostile towards the little one. I understand there is a pecking order and all, but Porkchop not only pecks at the little one, but has also chased the little one around. I even caught her grabbing on to the little one's beak and what looked like wanting to rip her face off. It has been pretty warm lately, so I thought the heat was stressing her out, but it has since cooled down, and she's still pretty aggressive. They still sleep together at night, sometimes on top of each other. Does anybody know what's going on and if this is just the pecking order? Any help/suggestions appreciated. Thanks!
