I have a beautiful silver appleyard drake who is very aggressive. He is OK with the two hens I got him with. They have been together since hatching last year. This spring I got two campbells and a welsh harlequin. He has been relentlessly harassing the campbells to the point that they are mission feathers on their necks and backs. None of the others are so abused. Should I get rid of him of will this pass. He is also aggressive towards my muscovy ducks and chickens although he doesn't try to mate with them. He is a spectacular specimen and I really don't want to get rid of him unless I get some ducklings. So far the hens don't seem like they are going to set although they lay every day! Do you think he needs more hens or does he just not like the color of the campbells or what. He is DEFINITELY mating with ALL of them. In the pond and out. HELP!!

I would separate him from the rest of a week, then put them together again. Sounds like they are working out a pecking order. After being alone for a while, he might be more receptive to the new comers.

Good luck!

x2! When my Muscovy drake used to be overly aggressive with his girls I would put him in a big dog kennel overnight (but still within sight of his girls so he didn't get too lonely). The next day his attitude was MUCH improved! I did this a few times last summer and now he's much much nicer to everyone

sounds like something I need to try.. Stanley my Welsh harlequin is giving my crested pekin fits. I got her last July she's almost a year old.. He and Daisy accepted her after about 3 months then sometime in March he has started acting like before.. We took in a magpie duck the end of Febuary and she fit right in.. Don't know why he is being such a toote.. Is it hormones.

Mount him to show who is boss. I have done that with my drake and he is the sweetest thing. This spring he thought again that he can be boss and I had to do it once. I now show him the warning finger and he knows better. To mount you grab the drake by the neck, and press the other hand onto his back while you stretch out his neck to the ground. You hold him for a minutes and let go. Most likely he will come back at you and you have to repeat it. They usually get it after 3 or 4 times.
