Aggressive Roo What to do?

I have 3 roos for my flock and they free range in the back yard. My one and always been more aggressive but now he is chasing my kid around the yard. When she plays outside they have always left her alone now not any more. The last time she was on the swing he just kept attacking her and she is only 5. Anyways, is there anything I can do to break him of attacking the kid or what should I do?

Kids must come first. The potential for blinding or serious injury to a child is too great to tolerate such behavior. I would, without hesitation, eliminate this rooster.

Yes - chop off his head! Stick him in the crockpot and have chicken noodle soup for supper.

I had a rooster that liked to attack me a time a two. I wondered what to do. He attacked my boy 1 time. ByeBye Rooster! Problem solved.

I love my chickens so much and quite honestly, I can't imagine not having them at this point. But I love my kids more and rooster/chickens/dogs/humans alike need to not mess with them

. That being said, after said rooster was gone I reallllly missed having a rooster! He really made a nice addition to my coop and kept the girls in line. I love how a rooster watches over and protects the flock. But I need to be able to get in the coop and take care of everyone. We now have 3 roosters and they are SO SWEET. They are so sweet they don't even fight with each other. What I have discovered is, there is no need to keep a mean rooster because there are nice roosters out there. If one of these gets mean, he will also be relocated.

Adamantly agree with all replys so far - once a rooster begins to attack or act threateningly to humans it does not stop or get better - in my experience - so the threat must be eliminated.

Rehoming him isn't really fair to the next family who gets him as they will attack them as well.
Sounds like chicken fajitas tonight!

I emphatically agree with everyone else--get rid of this rooster ASAP.

In case you think they are being overly dramatic when they talk about blinding, etc, you should know that I have a good friend with a nasty scar leading from his eye. He got it from a rooster attack when he was five years old. He is extremely lucky he didn't lose his eye.

Young children and roosters don't mix. You wouldn't let your kids play in the pasture with a bull or a stallion, and a rooster has the same instincts. Yes, there are a whole lot of great roosters in the world with no aggressive behaviors whatsoever, but you still can't trust one completely and you don't want one ranging where your kids play, just like a bull or a stallion. I've ridden some wonderful stallions in my life that were baby dolls, but I wouldn't let my kid lead one around.

Personally, I believe that you should get rid of all of your roosters, or pen your flock.

There are many 'tough remedies' for hardcore attackers, but an aggressive roo will NEVER recognize a 5 year old as it's MASTER. Kids come first, dinner is served!
