I have a flock of 14, many different breeds, sizes and ages. Some raised together, some added to the coop later. ALL of my chickens live in harmony, are healthy and seem happy, egg production is sky high....except for 1 rooster. He is a 1 year old Polish. He is cocky and in the past few months has become increasingly aggressive. He will not challenge me face to face, but is attacking me from behind as I walk away. I live in the country and have a nice friendly group except for him, I really hate the thought of him harming someone, as we have many friends and family here periodically. I also have 5 babies only 2 weeks old in my brooder. I am in doubt they can be added to my flock with this guy being such a bully. What is my solution?

I wouldn't put up with an aggressive rooster, but that said, I did want to mention that I've found surprisingly, that roosters are often the quickest, more so than hens to welcome new birds to the flock. My roosters have always said "come right in!" while the hens make a fuss about newbies being added.

I'd also cull him. Rules for living on my little acre include Thou Shalt Be Nice to Me. Any animal that attacks a person has a short life span around here. There's pretty much nothing an animal could ever offer to offset attacking me. Factor kiddos into that and it's a no brainer.

Yes, I was thinking along those lines. I have never had to dispatch any animal/pet due to behavior, but that being said I would feel awful if he hurt someone and I don't think with his nasty demeanor that I should pass him along to anyone else. Thanks to all for your input.

I am happy to hear that is your experience with roosters and little ones. I do have 2 bantam roosters who could not be more nice, hopefully they will be good to these new guys. Thanks!
