We have a small flock chickens (1 rooster, 8 hens - all of mixed breed ) and three Pearl Gray guineas (1 male and 2 female). The guineas, Jack, Jack and Melvin (don't ask), were raised in the coop with the adult chickens since they were aprox. four weeks old. Other than the nightly scramble to get the best roosting spot, they have all lived together happily. They all free range during the day, while J,.J&M favor hanging side-by-side with one of our two Barred Plymouth Rock hens. The last two weeks we've noticed a change...It seems that the male guinea, Melvin, has developed a serious dislike for our three white hens. It started with Melvin simply chasing them away from the rest of the gang. But today he started relentlessly attacking them to the extent of drawing blood!
Any words of wisdom as to why this is happening? Or, for that matter, What we can do about it? Other than searching the web for some Guinea Fowl recipes that is.
