Thanks for the tips!! I have a lot of coop cooling plans at the ready and I'll add to the list.Hello Les and welcome to BYC!
Wow, that's a nice assortment of breeds you wish to keep! Some of them may not be desert hardy, I'm in New Mexico and it gets pretty roasting out here. Do your research on breeds, use lots of big fans in the coop, big ventilation in the eaves of your coop and have them roost low to the floor where it's cooler. Best wishes!
I am in Arizona! I will definitely go check out that thread! Thank you.Welcome, to BYC. You should have a nice assortment of colored eggs when they start laying.
Just curious,, what portion of Sonoran Desert are you Arizona, or Mexico??
You should join the Arizona State thread, and ask all the hot weather questions you may have.

Hi Les, it's nice to meet you! You can post in the state threads to ask other members in your general vicinity for tips: State & Country threads. This article from the Learning Center may be helpful too: Caring for Chickens in Summer
Best wishes!
Just wanted to pass a fact about water in hot areas. Your chickens will not drink water that is too warm. They will dehydrate and of course suffer the consequences. Pretty much all peeps in Arizona, change out the water in chicken drinking containers. Talking about those in hot portions. Often during day with cooler water. A common practice is placing blocks of ice into water containers.Any desert chicken keeping tips are welcome. I have accumulated quite a list of random knowledge and always love more.
