X2 on Ol Grey Mare's advice. A clean coop shouldn't smell bad, but neither will it smell completely "fresh."

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Ol Grey Mare has given you some excellent advice. How large is your coop, and how many chickens do you have in it? Please feel free to ask any other questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. What kind of chickens do you have?
 
All things have a smell about them. People too. Once you get used to having them around you won't notice it so much unless there is a lapse in cleaning or issues of poor health. It's possible to sanitize things to death!
 
It's cleaned every Friday with jeyes fluid and refilled with wood shaving
