My eggs are ready for lockdown tonight, I candled a few of them earlier and was dismayed to see the air sacs all looking more like day 14 than day 18.

I used a second thermometer and hydrometer to measure, if it's accurate, then my temps were 98.3 this whole time, and humidity between 8-10% lower than the incubator readings.

So, I kept my humidity at 50 ish%, so was actually closer to 40%... and 3 times it dropped below 35% (incubator reading) so was much lower still.

I don't understand how the air sacs can be so small, unless the slightly low temp affected it just so.

In any case, I didn't take the time to candle them all(too light) but being RIR, they're about impossible to see through anyway. All that I did looked ok(about 11). No smells. So I've got 26 eggs going in.

And I have a bad feeling.

Especially since I'm leaving in the morning and won't be back till Monday.
(Double booked, old lady brain, just tired, idk but it wasn't intentional and I'd just about lick a donkey if it meant I don't have to go. )

I have a babysitter and a babysitter for my babysitter. They know not to open it for anything. But keep an eye on the humidity.

Anything I can do? Shall I let it run low today and lock down tomorrow morning?

Just count my blessings if any do survive?

They probably aren't ready for lockdown of you incubated at 98.3 they needed to be at 99.5. Your eggs probably won't hatch for another week.

We left Friday morning. They started hatching after midnight Saturday night. About half are hatched so far. I can see 1 nearly done and 2? pipped.

Got home a couple hours ago.

Well, they were rambunctious, pecking at each other and the eggs, rolling them all around, so I moved them.
12 chicks, 2 shrink-wrapped (I'm working on them) 2 pipped and quit, (one obviously shrink-wrapped with partial zip, the other seems to have drowned at external pip)the rest I'm not sure of their status.

I'm betting someone opened the bater, let the humidity fall and then rise too much, or any combination thereof.

Don't set eggs before checking your calendar.
