Alfalfa and egg laying is there a connection?

My chickens were not laying(not molting either) for a couple of weeks.

I started feeding alfalfa sweepings(mostly leaves not stalks) 5 days ago and my egg count is rising daily. I am not going to take a chances, they will be getting alfalfa for the rest of the winter.

I feed alfalfa pellets to keep their yolks a dark yellow. It is doing a good job.

It could be that you just boosted their nutrician and that is making them all think it's time to start laying or maybe it was going to happen anyway. mine are really starting to lay now and I don't feed alfalfa.
