Algae in waterer

I am having a terrible time keeping my waterers algae free in the heat of the summer. I have read that putting a tsp of cholrine bleach for each gallon of water will help but I wasn't sure how to tell the concentration of the bleach to know if I should put less than that.

Does anyone add chlorine bleach to the water for their chickens to keep algae and slime growth down?

I use about a half a tsp of Oxine per gallon to my chicken's water about every other fill. It helps to keep it fresh and the slime away.

If you can keep the water completely out of the sun you should not have problems with algae at least i don't.

I use 1 teaspoon of bleach in my 5 gal. waterer. It seems to keep the slime down pretty good, and the chickens don't seem to mind. I also give it a good cleaning once a week.
