Went out to gather eggs and came across this. I've never seen anything like it. What do you suppose caused it?

That looks like a corrugated egg.
It could be infectious bronchitis, a copper deficiency, excess calcium consumption or excessive use of antibiotics.

If it is the first one, it could be an inherited problem.

Wrinkled eggs can be from IB, stress, crowding or a defective shell gland.

Welcome!

Agreed; corrugated egg.

As you have already received some good information/advice, I will just add that I hope you enjoy BYC; not only is it overflowing with lots of useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures about chickens, turkeys, duck, quail, Peas and pretty much any other feathered and non feathered friends

I have a Light Sussex hen who routinely lays eggs that look like that. She appears to be perfectly healthy, but her eggs are HUGE and corrugated. The shells are thin, so I doubt it's excess calcium. Her flock mates all lay normal eggs.
She acts and looks like a rooster so maybe it's hormonal.
