" All dogs seen wandering this property will be shot"

Its not the Dobe thats at fault, its the stupid owner. Dogs are going to be dogs...they do dog things and dont understand human rules unless they are taught. I can guarantee that if I let my Yorkie off leash in your yard with would be a very similar outcome just on a smaller scale.

The owner should not be allowing her dogs to run offleash on other peoples property and harass their pets or wildlife. Plain and simple.

I would pitch a fit with the owner because it doesnt sound like she cares at this point. I would also consider calling your local animal authority and report any leash-law violations (if you have those in your area). Ususally if you mention the word "unlicensed" that may give the county a little more motivation to come and check it out

I havent seen her walking her dog since then, and i walk my ducks to the ditch now and sit at the top to watch them, then after about an hour Ill lead them all back to their pen.

If I see her again ill ptrobably just give her a death glare and stand up as she passes so that she knows im NOT her friend and she better keep that da** dog on a leash. My Parents are on my side with this one so if it happens again im hoping my mom will get serious with this and get on to that woman - all polietness aside.

I know its the owner, not the dog, lol. I happen to have a next door neighbor with two labs who have cost me over $100 in casualties and have killed over a dozen of my ducks. But the rents want to stay on good terms with the neighbors (

) The dogs would make a hunter some GREAT bird dogs, but my neighbors are using them for coyote and loose dog protection. GREAT sweet dogs, but their battery collars dont always work.

Yes that lady is stupid and totally in the wrong. Document this and make a report. But also as much as it is her responsibility to control her dog you have a responsibility to protect your ducks. If a dog can just run onto your property and decimate your ducks so can a coyote, fox, bobcat, etc. If you want to let them free range some you should be out there standing guard.

That being said I am so sorry you have an idiot for a neighbor.

I am sorry you have this neighbor---my pet peeve is idiot dog owners! (Personal fave: the owner who calls out "Oh, he's friendly!!" when the dog rushes unleashed up to me and my children and leashed english pit bulls)

Still, I believe in trying the calm and cool approach first. I know I am in the minority here

but my opinion is to NOT fly off the handle just yet. She walks with her dogs, the dog came to her when she called it, not like she lets them run around without her, so perhaps underneath it all she is a reasonable person who is simply ignorant. Remember not everyone is the least bit knowledgeable about domestic waterfowl. Perhaps she just needs to be educated? Obviously, no one can shoot a dog with any type of gun while the owner is walking right next to it. Do you know where she lives? Can you find out? You should go over and knock on her door in a very friendly way, smile, and tell her your first name and that you are her neighbor. Tell her she may have met your PET ducks before on her walks. Explain that they get so worried by dogs chasing them that they stop laying eggs for a week. (Or add some other detail.) Even invite her to come meet your birds. Don't argue that her dog is a duck killer, she will only deny that he could ever do such a thing. What I am saying is, kill her with kindness. What if with your help she turns out to be a duck admirer just like your other neighbors? An adult skill you will be learning as you grow older, is to solve confrontations and disagreements with others in such a way that you can still live next to or work with other person in your daily life.

If she is not amenable to reason, if she is the least bit aggressive toward your peaceful approach, then shoot both of them. (KIDDING!!)

We were out, walking up and down the road for our usual two miles when it happened, and i always walk my ducks to the ditch and back now. I only free range them on the weekends.
