I am posting this because I couldn't find the information I needed so went ahead with my instincts.
I have a hen who was sitting on 13 eggs for far too long. I finally went in and did the float test on all and opened several. They were all a jelly mass inside. Not sure why this happened. I have several roosters and the mother is experienced. Any input on this would be interesting.
I have another hen who hatched 11 chicks this week. I have put 2 chicks under the hen that had all the duds. If all goes well I will put a couple more under her tomorrow.
The hen that hatched 11 chicks is a banty mix so she will have trouble keeping them all warm. Help from another hen will help their survival.
I hope this helps someone else.
