All of my 13 chickens are bloody but only one chicken is actually bleeding on the head. We do have one rooster which we are getting rid of just in case. I have leghorns polish buff orpingtons that are bloody. I'm so scared and tommorow if it doesn't stop we are going to put some NEOSPORIN on them. Any answers and i would be delighted. If the bleeding doesn't stop I will force my dad to bring some to the vet

HELP ME!

Are they actively bleeding or do they have blood on them from the one chicken that is hurt?

Separate the rooster from everyone else to see what is going on. The one that is bloody needs to be by its self also. The others will peck it to death. Wash it's wound, pat dry and put neosporin on it.

the one bloody might have shook her head and got it on the others.. check them closely and if she is the only one remove her so the others don't peck her trying to get the blood.. when she is all healed try to put her back but be careful.. if it has been a while they may not accept her back. we just went through this with a rooster and he is still in the house.. they attack him if we put him back. so he will be in till spring till we can build him his own house

An article in Backyard Poultry said to use Iodine spray to stop cannibalism and pecking. Spray it on the wound.

Thanks for the help. I think me and my dad are going to separate the bird and go to the feed store for iodine spray and Blu kote. I think it's the rooster that is hurting them though, that's why we're getting rid of it. We'll also use neosporin. Only one of the chickens are really bleeding. It is a white leghorn.

A comb wound will bleed like crazy!

Here's a little trick that I learned. If you can't get a wound to stop bleeding, put regular kitchen flour on it. Just pack the flour into the wound and it will form a thick scab very quickly. At that point, leave it alone for a while. If you put Neosporin or anything moist on it, it will start to "melt" the scab.

Hope your birds are okay today!

They were okay today and some of them have cleaned them selves up pretty well. My dad and i went to the feed store and bought blu-kote, but we're going to put it on tomorrow. We just got rid of the rooster ( Finally, it's gone!) and all the chickens are happy. Thanks for your advice, SAM

I read somewhere else on BYC that if the neosporin has painkiller in it as well, it will kill the chicken. Make sure that there is no painkiller in the neosporin.

Hey DONT PANIC! Its probably a mean rooster but could me a mean hen. So before yu get ride of him whatch your flock. You may have an overdominent hen.
