Last week we went for our usual morning walks and after coming home, 3 of my 5-week old ducklings had severe neurological issues. The geese were fine and the rest of the 8ducklings were fine so I had to play detective quickly. I initially thought the geese attacked it and injured it.
Within 1 hour of coming home, they were losing their motor functions. Their tail feathers were wagging uncontrollably left/right and head bobbing up and down. Their legs were shaking and losing stability.
I merely walked them to an overgrown pasture area with lots of slugs, spit bugs and deer poop. I suspect some of them ate the deer poop or some contaminated soil. We're not going there again until I can confirm. I left the 2 with minor issues alone but took the one in critical condition inside. His legs were trembling and body frozen in place like he had Parkinson's disease. I live on an island so there is limited assistance so I had to become the duck vet using my limited medical knowledge. I searched up botulism and it seemed to match. It said that the vaccine is not "cost effective" either. Seeing as it's a neurotoxin, I first had to neutralize it. I put 1/2 teaspoon chlorella and 1/2teaspoon bentonite clay/1/2 teaspoon zeolite in his bowl of dry food and handfed the duck as its neck was becoming shakey. I then made a 500ml water solution of 1mg methylene blue and 1 drop MMS(chlorine dioxide) and added enough of the solution to make the food moist. I sprinkled it in the water too. I gave some of the solution and put sprinkles of chlorella/bentonite clay/zeolite to the rest of the flock.
The chlorella, bentonite clay and zeolite act as binders pulling out toxins from the body while the methylene blue and MMS are antidotes to poisoning, fungus, and bacteria.
Every bird survived.
I hope this post helped or will help some of you. Please research into these natural cures aside from Epsom salt.
Time it took for the neurotoxin to visibly show was a mere 1-2 hours and time it took to fully clear it from the duck's system was around 5hours.
