Happy to finally join BYC..after years of 'lurking' on the site! We have moved up here on Columbia River Gorge hill above Troutdale..after living back n forth to Kauai for many years. We bought our chicks today. 2 silver lace wyandotte, 3 Speckled Sussex and 2 black sex link. Building coop .. meanwhile, set them up with temp. home warm and cozy light ..feeder & something new to me..moisture absorbing pellets, Natures Bedding pellets. Were told it's easy to clean.. Here's the 'flock on the way home! ps oh lol i just 'learned that the
3 black & cream are the SLW.. the Sussex are the 2 big girls!! thanks to chick pics from you folks!! (my Sussex hens a few years back, were black n white.. these will be brown)
Lovin this BYC !!!

Aloha, and welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. My family and I live in Hawaii. You have some wonderful breeds. Black Sex Links are my personal favorites as they are friendly and hardy, egg laying machines. I've raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds and hybrids), and they have been my best layers, consistently churning out more than 300 eggs per hen per year. You should get loads of eggs from those 2 girls. :o) Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your chicks.

Oh i'm thrilled the coop is happening .. took the chicks out to our warm spring day.. and the eldest' girls with, a few feathers, the brown speckled Sussex..are Flying! wahoo! She really stretched her wings! This is such fun! However, have to keep changing water.. the Nature's Bedding Pellets.. spoil the water fast! i'm not sure i like this 'water absorbing pellet. Anyone else use it for chicks?? ,
