1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
- We got our first Chickens about two years ago! We started off with around 10 and now we have around 60.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
- Whoops! I jumped the gun in my 1st answer section. We have around 60 chickens now -- mostly all Hens but we do keep a Rooster for each breed.
(3) What breeds do you have?
- Blue Splash Marans, Black Copper Marans, White Leghorns, Light Brahmas, Salmon Faverrolles, Easter Eggers and we are getting Blue Splash Ameraucanas on Monday as well as some Red Ranger Meat Birds!
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
- Honestly, I am an animal lover all around and so is my BF. We raise our own meat birds for our own freezer -- I love knowing where our food comes from. We also have Hens for eggs -- we sell our eggs weekly at the farmers market. We sell "Rainbow Dozens" and I love seeing peoples reaction to them -- especially tourists, visiting HI. I also love that we are providing a high quality, humane and happy product for our community!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
- My BF & I are pretty into organic farming. We run a 3 acre organic coffee farm, raise chickens, turkeys and ducks. We also have Mini Nubian goats that I look FWD to breeding and milking in the future. Ultimately, our hobbies are living the good life, being happy and staying healthy!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
- Our family consists of me, my BF, our three dogs, three cats, 60+ chickens, 4 turkeys, 9 ducks and two goats. My job off of our farm and homestead is dog grooming!
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
- I found BYC a couple years ago when we got our first chicks. Honestly, IDK why I've waited so long to join the community! I probably should have done it sooner! ...
