I have 18 three week olds and have had zero problems until now. The one I'm talking about is a RIR
I have one, that I think might be a small roo. I'm not sure yet. I have another roo that is double the size of the rest of them, and kind of aggressive, so it's kinda hard to compare and know for sure! lol.
I have them in a playpen that is about 4' x 2.5' approximately. I just upgraded them to this size last weekend! ACK THEY ARE GROWING FAST! I'm going to go on a search tomorrow for a washer box or some giant cardboard thing so I can split them.
Anyway, I noticed tonight that this one (I'll call him "he") had a bare-ish spot on his neck. There were some new feathers coming in, and a red naked area above that. From what I can tell, some of the others have been pecking, but the skin is not broken. It looked like it at first, but closer inspection it was just new feathers.
I took him out, and put him in his own box for the night at least (I don't have a light for just him tho) and covered the box with a towel. *he is not happy about it*
At first I was going to ask if I should put neosporin on there or something, but it does not look like broken skin like I said. I was just in our feed store today and did not see any Blue Kote in the chicken section. Should I look elsewhere? Will this fix this issue?
I'm hell bent that this coop will be done this weekend! Or at least to the point they can sleep outside!
