Hey everyone, I just can't contain my excitement, I just said yes to 1 pair of black SQ Giant Runts and may even be taking a SQ grizzle pair.

Yay, I always wanted Giant Runts but could never find any in driving distance. Until now! A bit pricey for my taste but I have seen Runts go for much more.

Any runt owners out there? Got any pics and stories to share to get me even more excited?

We love our Runts! We have two red spread ash birds and one white cock bird. We prefer them to our rollers as they seem to have more of a personality than our other birds.

The waterer in the backgroung is a gallon sized poultry waterer.

your giants are gorgeous!!!

So, I brought my pair home on monday night, pitch black male and a black hen with grizzled white head. The breeder had a great set-up and his birds were all in top shape. I have some concerns with the male, at the breeder he was the busiest male in the loft(cooing at everything with feathers), thats why I picked him, he was fine monday night and tuesday morning. When I got home tues night he was sluggish, not cooing or running after the hen. i thought he might not have found the food and water and was dehydrated but when i picked him up he had some food and water in his crop. This morning he just lays there..... seems alert when picked up but as soon as i set him down he is not very responsive.....

what could this be?
At this point I doubt he will survive.

Any input would be greatly appreciated,
Anna

Sorry, just saw this. I'd suggest a general antibiotic and electrolites(sp?) for your male. Also if you have an avian vet, have your bird checked out and at the very least have him in quarentine, JIC he has something that could pass to the other birds. That's what I have, hope it helps

he sadly passed away a few hours after my last post...... threw up food all over and then was gone. Never have seen this before.

The breeder was nice enough to replace him(didn't ask him to) and I bought another pair and extra hen off him as well on Saturday. They are all doing very well.

Will post pics soon,
Anna
