I just posted an add on craigslist for 7 roosters at $5.00 a piece or $30. for all of them. I said that I dont want them to become meat birds, and to please not reply if you want them for that...

Is $5.00 WAAYYYY to much to ask for 6week old Black Australorp Roos?
Do you think there is someone out there looking for roosters NOT to eat?
Am I dreaming and there is no way someone isnt going to eat them?

There are people out there who will pay $5 for a bird that age. You really can't monitor what people do with your chickens once they leave your hands though. I don't sell my roosters because we use them for ourselves, I won't tell you why

Around here, I'm lucky to find someone to GIVE them away to. 99% of the time, they do go for eating...I do tell people if that's what they are planning to do with them, to please dispatch them quickly and humanely. Not much else you can do, except do it for yourself and then you'll know. Sorry.

I had a Black Australorp Rooster and let me tell you ,full grown he was not a pet.
90 % of roosters out there are not pet material honestly.
It is a bit of a streatch to expect everyone to want a pet roosters.

I never asked what was to happen to any roos that I sold. I knew where most of them were going

I know a few ended up as pets/breeders but most did not. It really honestly doesn't bother me if they are going to be eaten. If it's a fav roo I might hold onto him for the right situation, but as far as a flock of 6 roos you are better off selling them as meat birds and not as pets. Odds are they will tell you they are for pets since they wont be processed until they are about 20 weeks....
Sorry.....
