Am I doing my litter right?

I started out with a little but if pine shaving in the floor of the coop, and since then I pile a little bit on top every night. It's only like day 6 of doing this so if I'm wrong I guess it's not to bad. But if I'm doing this right when should I clean?

If you havent cleaned it in 6 days, I would clean it soon. It depends on how many chickens you have, and how dirty it gets. If the shavings dont get too dirty or start smelling, I would say your doing ok

You only clean once or twice a year if you do the deep litter method. Lots of info out there about it...a search will pop up several threads.

I clean once a year, it's 24 inches deep in places, no smell, wonderful compost.
