Good morning, it’s an exciting morning here at Little Wendigo!

A week ago, when I moved my chicks to a brooder, I mistakenly unplugged the other incubator. I did not realize it until the next day, about 18 hours later. I was just sick. I had lost my beautiful little Cochin mix that laid litter bitty green eggs. All I had left of her were her eggs.

I was so upset but decided I wasn’t going to give up. I candled the eggs at 18 days and all were full except one. There are four green eggs and four from my other bantams.

Yesterday was 21 days but I refused to give up. I got up during the night to look at them and I heard a chirp! This morning we have a chick. It’s already dried off and very active. It appears to be just fine! 😊It’s not from a green egg, but there is hope! Another egg has pipped.

From what I researched, hatching can be delayed. I will update later.

Good luck!!!!!! I recently lost one of my girls and had 2 of her eggs in the incubator.. I was so happy both hatched. Sad I didn't have more but I was just checking fertility.

My friend had this crazy experience where the electricity went off on her huge hatch in March and the generator magically wouldn't start. She had to put chicks in her coat :(. The incubator was cold for a number of hours, but almost all of them pulled through. They are really resilient creatures! I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Currently there are six healthy chicks and two more pipping! All eight hatched despite being without heat for 18 hours. ❤️😍❤️

Update: The last chick’s egg membrane was too dry so I had to help it. It’s not doing well. It was almost shrink wrapped. I took it out and put it into some warm water. It chirped a little. It looked like it was enjoying the warmth. Then I placed her back in the incubator. It looks like part of the umbilical cord is sticking out. I thought it was a goner. I have been monitoring it all afternoon. It seems to be breathing normally. Then tonight, she moved. I guess if she survives the night there is hope. Bantam chicks are so very tiny!

She is okay! This morning she’s up and about and acting just fine. She does have something hanging.
