Hi! I've been reading this forum since we got our first batch of Production Reds about 4 months ago. This is such a great source of info, and entertainment!

We have a batch of 10, 5 week old chicks. Five Ameracaunas, 3 Barred Rocks, and 2 Buff Orpingtons. They were all supposed to be pullets.

This one has me wondering.

Compared to one of it's sisters, another 5 week old Ameracauna.

Tail is twice as long, and kind of curly.

So, boy or girl, or is it too early to tell?

It is a little early, but the tail feathers appear to be pointy and the comb is pretty red, so I am 75% sure its a male. I couldn't tell that one of my EE's were a male till they were like 8 weeks old, but could point out the male BR at about 4-5 weeks of age. I actually have two bantam ameracaunas, who are 4 month old and I just realized they were girls, the pea comes are tough as they don't ever get real big.

I'm leaning towards it being a cockerel. I've only had two feather out female with that particular coloring, all the rest have been male. I love the coloring of your pullet. She's going to be a beautiful one!

If it does turn out to be a roo, he has a good home already lined up with my friend. He will be charge of about 15 hens

I'd noticed the past couple of weeks that this one is a lot more energetic than everyone else. Also, if another chicks dares to jump onto a high perch, this one goes after it for a sparring match.

Hi,

I second Jean's vote. Most likely an Easter Egger cockerel. Definitely not a true Ameraucana though.

Hopefully it turns out to be a she but I bet "he's" glad to know that he's got a good home to go to if it turns out to be a he.

God Bless,
