I just hatched 3 Silkied Ameraucanas, a week ago. I plan to breed them, but I have no Ameraucanas. I would like to purchase some of this age, so they can grow up together. I do not know the sex of my new hatches, but was thinking .... IF there are 2 roosters, they could breed 8 females each, right? (Can you believe it .... I am hoping for roosters!)

In summary, I would like to buy about 20 Ameraucanas, of various colors, for this project.

I am open to trades, or bartering, as well. If you have quality chicks, I would offer you eggs from the matings.
This is a very special project to be involved in!

Wouldn't you want to breed them to Blues and Blacks???

If you bred them to blacks you would get blue splits???

They are splash right???

I don't know if he has any available now but try contacting Will Marrow at www.whitmorefarm.com He will have some later if he doesn't have them right now.

Here's the genetics...

First Cross
Silkie Splash x Black = 100% Blue Silkie Splits

Silkie Splash x Blue = 50% Blue Silkie Splits & 50% Splash Silkie Splits

Silkie Splash x Silkie Splash = 100%Silkie Splash Splits

I would set up at least 2 breeding pens (three would be best) to try to diversify your gene pool as much as possible. If your goal is BBS Silkie Ameraucanas, then I would breed your silkies to blacks. The take the blue split silkies from each pen and you will get BBS silkie ameraucanas for your second cross. Then you will want to start your next set of splits with a new gene pool.

Now if you're interested in throwing in the lavender gene into the gene pool, you would need some Lavenders....hmmm...who has lavenders...... ohhh cough, cough, meeeee

I've got blues blacks and a splash. Actually 2 blue cockerels and one black over blue black and splash pullets all around 9 months old now and laying pretty well. I'm actually considering selling the whole lot of them to make room for more wyandottes. Get ahold of me and maybe we can work something out for hatching eggs from mine for some silkieds when u get them going. I really like the looks of the silkied feathered ones. Mine are pure and most come from heavenly springs.
